Volunteer Opportunities With Innovate Chatham
Innovate Chatham’s main purpose is to act as a catalyst for various projects, but we also have some opportunities for direct help:
STEM Club
Currently at The Alliance in Siler City on Saturday mornings. We are currently 3 volunteers running a 6 week series for middle-schoolers with a fun set of easy projects using inexpensive materials as volunteers for Communities in Schools Chatham County. We could use a few extra folks to substitute. We would also like to expand our effort to other locations by forming additional volunteer groups. We can teach you how to run these programs.
Science Fair
School, County, Regional, and State fairs are looking for those with science and engineering experience to judge fairs. The most important thing isn’t the score, but to encourage students to enthusiastically investigate, build, improve, and communicate. Sometimes it only takes one interaction to change a kid’s life.
Career Fair
We help schools in Chatham put together Tech Career Fairs. This is usually a 1-3 hours of commitment for one day. No fancy presentation needed, just share your career journey.
Mentoring and Tutoring
We work with Communities in Schools Chatham County to help tutor kids. There is a desperate shortage of math tutors. There are a few mentoring opportunities also. Let us know and we tell you more and can put you in touch.
Digital Inclusion Help
We have ideas about how we might help with various programs to make internet more available, affordable, accessible, and understandable. We have run a couple events but want to do more in this area. We can work with your organization to present information. We may need hands-on help at future events. Please let us know if you are interested.
Chatham Tech Talk
We have been organizing public discussions and presentations for more than 4 years on a wide variety of topics: DIY fiber optic systems, to cybersecurity, entrepreneurship, art, computer simulations, etc.
Have you thought of a technical topic that might be of interest? Maybe you met someone in the area who knows a lot about a technical topic from a scientific/engineering/business/social point of view?
